Today’s the day! I know that a lot of us like to start a “diet” on Monday because it’s the beginning of the week. I’m proposing that we don’t “diet”. And so why not break the trend and start on Tuesday….gasp!
Let me go back a little bit here and tell you a story. There was once this couple that were very happily married and were ready to start having children. They tried on their own for a while but then went to see the doctor. The doctor gave the girl some things to take but after 6 months, she still wasn’t pregnant. So the couple started going to the infertility specialist.
At the very first appointment, the specialist said to take some pills and lose 10% of her body weight. She was so anxious to have a baby and 10% felt like it would take for-ev-er to lose. There were always a ton of diets out there but she had seen that depriving herself of everything that she liked made her want those things even more.
So even though she wanted to be pregnant pronto, she started to look into some different programs. She worked through them, counting calories, exercising and trying to live better without denying herself treats (because chocolate chip cookies and carmelita bars were not going to stay away for long).
It took a while to start seeing any changes but she kept at it. Her water bottle was always at her side, causing her husband to think she was a little too attached to it. She ate more fruits and veggies. She started feeling better and sleeping more. And then one day, she weighed her self and found that she had lost exactly 10%.
And then the next day she took a pregnancy test, and she was expecting!
Ok, now I’m not saying that losing weight magically changed my fertility issues. But I know that there are a lot of factors that go into things like this. And losing weight helped us out.
So here’s the programs and things I used to lose weight the first time, and what I’m starting to do today to live healthy:
1. Decide what you’re going to eat. I like the saying that working out isn’t going to do a whole lot of good unless you are eating right. So find a program that works for you.
